Steam punk city - Castle in the sky

D A W N

I pressed my face against the glass
Smiled as my breath made some pattern or other
The world beneath unfurled before me like a sail
Glinted in gold from this rich dawn sky
Awaiting the ship they had told me would come
Quietly anticipating that which was to come

I couldn't yet see you, still obscured by the city
The towers of glass reflected your coming
Silhouetted on the sunrise

This is the first part in a series of three works [a triptych] based around this steam punk/victorian kind of theme. This was actually the second original piece that i was going to use for this image - [link] which is why it has kind of similar themes. The first original I did for the 'God is empty' idea will be the middle piece in this set and the third piece was added afterwards to make this a triptych kinda thing.
I love the whole idea of sky ships, hot air balloons, antiques, old clocks, big dresses, brass buttons, cogs, wires, steam powered machinery, big boots, clockwork...all these wonderful things. :heart:
I know its not really full on with all these things but its based around this theme. I just love everything about it.
[Also i just LOVE this song by VNV and i think that it adds a little something to the idea]

Its going to be a merge between a light and dark theme over the three pieces. The city of dawn and the city of night. I dont know how well thought out its all been, but it was fun to bring together. The other two pieces are already painted and i will add the pencil work soon.
Maybe sometime in the future i will rework this design/idea using more elements and such.

I used a bit of shellac in this, i think thats crushed beetles or something *haha* It dries a nice shiny orange colour and I use it a lot in art for giving work a sepia tone. Was fun to play with in an actual art piece.

I love the girls hair on the left. :giggle:

I love the way you use a mega mix of mediums in your works, it really amps up the line work wonderfully! anyways, gorgeous work as always and I adore the theme too :)
