Third piece in my studio art finals work. See the other two so far here -
Midnight Grotesque - [link] Deformation Age - [link] This piece is a continuation from this piece - [link] As you can see with how the arm would join up This piece doesn't have a lot of stand alone meaning like the other two because its apart of the world of the second piece. Originally this idea was actually going to be integrated into the deformation piece and all be on the one piece of paper but im glad that i separated the two because i could put more of my ideas and more meaning into them. She is a 'nurse' to symbolize the healing that i was representing in the deformation piece. She is the figure that is offering the help. To you she doesn't have to be a 'nurse' she can be anyone or anything that would offer you help in a time that you needed it. I just liked the idea of the first aid crosses in this because they are a universal symbol of health, help, and healing. I added all the scars and bandages to her to show that she isnt a perfect person. That figure [or thing] that helps you doesn't need to be perfect to do a good job, what is important is that they help you and make you feel better about the world and yourself. She carries the scissors because when you are constructed again as a person - as the beautiful individual that you are - she will cut you free from the last of your restraints and you are free. The figures in straight jackets behind the nurse are those who are still unwilling to seek help and would rather be tied to their decaying selves and poisonous thoughts than be unbound and set free. I really love how these figures came out and i think it adds that macabre feeling that i was going for in the background. One of the constricted people [the close figure in the background] is showing how the bonds are slowly coming undone. She takes breaths of beautiful life and is beginning to see the world for how rich and intoxicating it really is. Her physical wounds and disfigurements will slowly vanish as her mental state - her mental wounds - heal. I enforced this idea by having the oxygen tube connected to the babies. I love the symbolism of newborns and think that they represent something beautiful - a new beginning. And a lot of these images are about that, constructing yourself a new beginning. Oh and by the way this piece represents 10:00 on our countdown to dawn. PS - The colours in this [purple and blue] are done that way because this piece is going to sit next to the deformation piece and under the midnight piece, hopefully all the colours will flow into each other Oh and im thinking of attaching actual needles to the syringes around the hair and adding some thread to it but i dont know yet It is 1:00 in the morning here and i dont know if that made any sense! I am so tired!! Please enjoy and i would LOVE to hear your thoughts/reactions to all the pieces so far. DONT STEAL! Create your pain, design your wound
watch the fresh blood drain
from your skin and from your vains.
This art can take you far
once it becomes a scar.
The agony you endured
and the beauty of this scar,
will make you a star...
